Trinkets and Treasures...

Today, i've got to admit, i've felt a little unmotivated...my charity shopping didn't quite go to plan and didn't actually find anything quite like i imagined...(hopefully this weekend will uncover some unusual discoveries)

This left me at a bit of loose end on the sketchbook front, wandering what to draw...with a bit of inspiration i decided to create a set-up of my favourite items and photograph them...

The plan for these images is to apply them to my sketchbook by using "Cellulose Thinner". This is a new techniques that transfers the image but creates a worn, vintage look...i have yet to try out so shall keep you posted.

China Plates...

Ok so i had a tutorial today, main feedback was to keep drawing!!! DRAW DRAW DRAW! 

Alongside the odd cat, deer and rabbit already chillin' out in my sketchbook i think i'm going to stick to quite "circular" shaped objects....i seem to be fascinated with doilies and spirographs at the moment, (all the laser cutting gets me excited) so circular imagery may help when i attempt to create my own doily motifs!

These are my version of some china plates, i used some doilies as a stencil to create the blue china pattern then added a few 

squiggles of my own....

Tomorrow I'm on the hunt for some more fascinating objects to draw, Charity Shops beware...i'm coming to get you!

In 12h and 57m I could be the proud owner of this little guy...isn't he cute!!!

I want these...available from Etsy.

I've really enjoy working on paper, (strangely more than fabric) and also love working on small scale. These designs are so charming and really make me want to get back into hand printing! 

My own designs would work really well presented in this format and would make nice treats to hand out at my degree show...

Contextual...

Contextual research is a big part of our textile course...it makes us aware of what other designers are doing, which market trends are popular and inspires our sketchbook work and design outcomes.

This design by Christina Song has given me a lot of scope when working in my sketchbook, from this image i really thought more about line quality and how my lines were represented...

I love the amount of intense detailing in this piece adding interest to small parts of the design. This has really inspired my to treat each individual shape as a separate image rather than looking at the image as a whole.
